Is there a way to redirect video output from a iPhone to the vehicle dock and therefore to the video screen of the vehicle with Youtube content? Can that be done with Vehicle Dock in iPod mode (vs. On-screen Navigation mode) or is the iPod mode not compatible with iPhone 3Gs? Is there any software updates from Nav-TV on this front?

Hello CL55,

The only video that the VehicleDock displays is when the iPhone is in iPod mode.

If you wish to display other video, such as a "copy" of the iPhone's screen, then you will need a video cable (plus an adaptor, I think) as well as some sort of software that allows you to send the contents of your screen to an external display.

I know some of our forum users have done this already, such as:
I have seen many people ask how to get news, weather, video, iPod music, google maps, and how about ANYTHING that runs on your iPhone to display on your myGIG screen.

Requirements:
MyGIG
NAV-TV with AV input Harness

iPhone
Apple AV Output Cable
ScreenSplitr (Jailbreak your iPhone, search Cydia)

With your iPhone plugged into your myGIG using AV cables (I'll do a full write-up later), run ScreenSplitr. Thats all...
You will see your iPhone Screen Mirrored on your MyGIG. Any application you run on the iPhone will display on the myGIG screen. Imagine the possibilities... Pandora, Google Maps, Red Light Cameras (Atoll.CoPilot is cool), SlingPlayer (Watch live TV on your MyGIG Screen). The only Issue I have with screensplitr is frame-rate. It does compress the video output and freame-rate is not the greatest due to the mirroring on the iPhone 3G, but it works and looks good enough for now!

Here is my short video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUvmgqlg2tY

This particular one was being displayed on a Chrysler radio, but the exact vehicle and radio are not important...

Thanks,

Tony Y.

Thank you, that's great info... I'm wondering if the iPhone is plugged in directly to the Nav-TV vehicle dock at all times or does he have to switch to a direct connection between the iPhone A/V output to the factory radio (in his case MyGIG) via some video switch or it's possible to see iPhone screen output via the vehicle dock in iPod mode when the iPhone has the jailbreaks app installed that sends the iPhone screen to the A/V output...

CL,

When connected through the VehicleDock, the iPhone is in iPod mode only.  The VehicleDock is not the equivalent of an A/V cable, and as far as I know, can't be used to simply display whatever is showing on the iPhone, no matter what sort of app you're running.  Of course, I may be wrong about this, and it may be possible to still direct the video through the VehicleDock in manual mode...

Thanks,
